James R. "Jim" Byrne

Jim brings over 40 years of telecommunications industry experience to CenturyLink. During his career he has worked in both the international and domestic arenas in the satellite, cable and general telecommunications disciplines. He has worked with industry and government partners to market and implement private data, video and information networks. Jim has directed account management activities for a variety of large federal government customers, including the WHCA, Department of Defense, Department of State, Department of Energy, NASA, and federal national security and law enforcement agencies.
Jim began his career as an account manager for RCA Global Communications in 1971. He moved to the Washington Metropolitan area in 1980 as district sales manager for RCAGC for the mid-Atlantic sales district consisting of Delaware, D.C. Maryland, North Carolina and Virginia. In 1983 Jim became Manager of Government Telecommunications Marketing and additionally served as project manager for the Armed Forces Radio and Television Service SATNET NETORK. When MCI International acquired RCAGC in 1987, he joined MCI as Manager of Government Telecommunications Marketing, where he garnered further experience coordinating implementation of government contracts and managing customer services and programs.
From 1991 through 1996 he was Senior Vice President for Business Development and International Relations for U.S. Electrodynamics, a satellite services and earth station operations company. From 1996 through 1999 Jim worked for WorldCom Federal Systems as a senior government accounts manager. With the WorldCom-MCI merger Jim moved "across the street" to MCI WorldCom Government Markets, where he served as project manager for the DOT FAA FAATSAT program. In 2000 Jim was recruited by GTE Telecom to work as a senior business development manager for GENUiTy Telecom, a joint GTE–Verizon venture. With the demise of GENUiTY, Jim was recruited by FLAG Telecom as Business Development Manager for Global Accounts in the undersea cable industry. From 2003 through 2005 Jim worked at Verizon FNS in developing their Capture Management organization and was capture manager for DOD, DOS, DOE accounts.
In 2005 Jim came aboard at CenturyLink as part of the GSA Networx Contract Proposal Management team. In 2007 Jim became Manager of Business Development and Capture.
Jim is a U.S. Navy veteran, a member of the Veterans of the Vietnam War, a life member of the VFW, the NRA, and is a member of The Company of Military Historians and other professional organizations.
He has served his local community as president of the St John the Evangelist School PTA, a volunteer firefighter and EMT and President of the Warrenton Rescue Squad.
