Prism Home Media Sharing: Music

Home Media Sharing enables your DVR to stream photos and music from any networked home PC in your home.

Note: PC must be running Window's Media Connect server (included with Windows Media Player 11). Media Sharing can stream non-DRM protected music.

Setting Up Media Sharing on Your PC

  1. On your PC, launch Windows Media Player.
  2. Click the Library menu button.
  3. Then click Media Sharing. A Media Sharing dialog box will appear.
  4. Select the Share My Media box.
  5. And click the generic device icon labeled Unknown Device.
  6. Click OK.
  7. If multiple generic device icons appear, select and allow all of these devices.

    Firewall Settings in Windows Vista

    If you are a Windows Vista user, you need to change your firewall settings to allow Media Sharing access to your library.

    1. In the Network and Sharing Center, click Windows Firewall.
    2. Click Change Settings.
    3. Click the Exceptions tab.
    4. Scroll down and check the boxes for Windows Media Player and Windows Media player Networking Sharing Service.
    5. Click OK.

    Selecting Your PC

    1. On your Prism remote control, press the MENU button.
    2. Use the RIGHT ARROW to select EXTRAS.
    3. Select PHOTOS AND MUSIC.
    4. Press OK.
    5. You will see a list of PCs in your house that are acting as Windows Media Connect Servers.
    6. Arrow to select a PC.
    7. Press OK.
      • If your PC is not configured to share media, you will not be able to select it.
      • If no PCs are configured as Windows Media Connect Servers, an information screen will appear.

      Playing a Song or Playlist

      1. After you have selected a PC, use the ARROW buttons to select a music category.
      2. Press OK.
      3. Use the ARROW buttons to scroll through individual songs and playlists.
      4. Press OK.
      5. The song will begin playing and any stored metadata or song information will be displayed.

        Note: Home Media Sharing supports .mp3 and .wma music formats, the Windows Media Playlist format .wpl and M3U playlist format .m3u.

        Press BACK to return to select another song or playlist or MENU to exit.
