Anonymous Call Rejection troubleshooting tips

Anonymous Call Rejection is a calling feature that works with caller ID. When it's operating like it should, PRIVATE or ANONYMOUS numbers are blocked, and your phone doesn't ring. Instead, the call is intercepted, and the caller hears: The party you're calling does not accept blocked calls. To call this person, hang up. Dial star-eight-two to unblock your line, and dial the number again.

If this is not happening, perhaps you don't subscribe to caller ID, you haven't turned the feature ON or maybe your phone settings need to be changed.

Because Anonymous Call Rejection uses caller ID information, you must have caller ID as a feature on your line for Anonymous Call Rejection to work.

Turn this calling feature ON

Anonymous Call Rejection is a feature that can be turned ON and OFF. When we install it on your phone line, it is OFF, and it will not work until you turn it ON. When you're ready to use this calling feature, dial *77 (1177 from a rotary phone) to activate it, and you'll hear 2 beeps when it turns ON.

Note: If you need to turn it OFF, dial *87 (or 1187 from a rotary phone), and you'll hear 2 beeps confirming it's been deactivated.

Be aware -- some may pass

Anonymous Call Rejection only prevents calls from ringing into your home if the caller's line is blocked and identified as PRIVATE or ANONYMOUS. It doesn't reject calls that your caller ID shows as UNAVAILABLE, OUT OF AREA, UNKNOWN or NOT PROVIDED. That's because those types of calls don't include the necessary data and/or are being sent via equipment that doesn't support caller ID. As a result, Anonymous Call Rejection can't block those calls. Examples of calls like this include: calls from cell phone networks, calls from large businesses (call centers), operator-assisted calls (collect, pay phone, credit card, international calls).

If you need help blocking -- specific numbers or certain types of calls -- maybe a different type of calling feature will do what you need done.

Change your phone settings

Make sure your phone is set to TONE, not PULSE. Many phones have a physical P/T switch located on the side, bottom or back of the unit. If you don't see a physical switch, go into the phone's setup menu and look for the P/T settings.
