How to set up a static IP address

If you've previously leased a single or block static IP address from CenturyLink, and need to set it up again after a modem reset or a replacement, here's how.

How to set up static IP on a SmartNID

Setting up a single static IP address

  1. Reboot your modem by unplugging the power cord and waiting for 3 minutes.
  2. Plug the power cord back into your modem, then watch for the internet light to turn green.
  3. Verify that your IP address is visible by looking it up at http://www.whatismyip.com/. Once you've confirmed that, you're done!
  4. If you are having trouble, contact tech support.

Setting up a static IP address block

  1. Reboot your modem by unplugging the power cord and waiting for 3 minutes.
  2. Plug the power cord back into your modem, then watch for the internet light to turn green.
  3. Verify that at least one of your static IP addresses is visible by looking it up at http://www.whatismyip.com/.
  4. Configure your modem's WAN settings, following the instructions for PPPoE Setup > Static IP Block.
  5. If you are having trouble, contact tech support.
