Identifying circuits using the most (or least) bandwidth

Use the PTAP Top Hitters report to identify circuits that have the highest percentage of bandwidth utilization. Data used for this report is generated in 15-minute intervals with the most recently/last-collected sample being used.

To run a Top Hitters report, adjust the drop down values in the Top Hitters section to reflect what you need to find, and then click Go. Your report will pop up in a box, as shown below. To get detailed metrics, select any of the blue hyperlinks in the Description column.

  1. Click the Reports tab, then click the Network Reports subtab, then click Network Performance.

Control Center opens a separate window for CenturyLink PTAP.
  1. In the Top Hitters box on the dashboard (above the map), use the lists to choose the information for your report:

    a. Specify whether you want to view Interfaces (device metrics), Physical Transport Metrics (layer 1 metrics), or Queues.

    b. Select the collection sample. By default, you'll get the last collected 5-minute metric sample (FiveMinute).

    c. Select the value you want the report to be shown for (e.g., Bytes In, Average Utilization % Out, etc.)

    d. Select whether you want to view the highest or lowest items.

    e. Select how many items you want on the list. (You can have up to 50, but 10 is the default.)

  2. Click Go.

PTAP runs the report and displays your results.

You might also want to know how to view averaged metrics at a glance or view summary metrics for a specific point in time. If you're not already doing it, you can create threshold rules to be alerted to changes and use map filters to drill down to the results you want most.
