WiFi 7 pod FAQs

WiFi 7 is is the latest standard of wireless technology. It delivers faster, more reliable, and more secure internet access than WiFi 6.

The top benefits of WiFi 7 include:

  • Up to 8X faster: Wireless connection speeds for capable devices* up to 8 times faster than WiFi 6.

  • Better coverage: Up to 25% greater WiFi coverage compared to WiFi 6.

  • More devices: Over 100 concurrent devices can stream simultaneously.

  • Lower latency: Less time to transmit data, meaning reduced lag when streaming, using virtual or augmented reality, and cloud gaming.

  • Works with all WiFi devices: WiFi 7 is future-forward, while remaining backwards compatible with devices on older WiFi standards.

You get optimal performance and coverage with a W1700 pod connected directly (wired) to your SmartNID.

A wireless W1701 pod can be added in another room if you have a larger space, unique layout, or building materials that require more coverage. Both WiFi 7 pod types work together to create your Premium WiFi network.

A technician will complete installation of your Premium WiFi service.

Once your network is set up, you’ll manage it with the CenturyLink app. You can use the app to add or rename pods, check your signal strength, manage parental controls, and more.

Note: The SmartNID user settings at http://192.168.0.1 do not include WiFi settings. Use the CenturyLink app to manage your Premium WiFi network.

You can connect your devices by selecting the network in the device settings and entering your WiFi password.

Note that Premium WiFi equipment is not WPS (WiFi Protected Setup) compatible.

Most locations will have plenty of coverage with a single, wired 1700 pod. Some spaces may require a wireless 1701 pod depending on size, layout, and building materials.

If you think a pod is faulty, you can:

  • Try moving or disconnecting a pod to make sure you don't have pod interference (such as two pods in one room)
  • Check your setup on our troubleshooting page
  • Contact tech support

If you replace a faulty pod, please return the old one to us to avoid unreturned equipment fees.

Ethernet-compatible devices can be plugged into any one of the open LAN ports on the bottom of your WiFi 7 pod(s), depending on the speed of your device:

  • W1700K pod - 1G or 10G LAN
  • W1701K pod - 2.5G LAN
