Remote management settings

You can configure options for remote access on your CenturyLink modem. Learn how to set up remote console, remote GUI, and remote telnet.

Note:  Your modem settings may appear slightly different from the images below, but the steps will be the same.

Remote console enables you to access your modem by telnet or SSH over a WAN connection, using the WAN IP address of your modem. 

Select Remote Console in the left sidebar, under Remote Management.

Follow the steps to edit the Remote Console settings.
 

  • Step 1: Enable the type of remote console access you want. Options may include SSH, WAN Telnet and/or LAN Telnet.

  • Step 2: Enter the SSH username and password.

  • Step 3: Select the idel disconnect time, choosing from options between 15 minutes and 7 days. Or you can select "Disable" to turn off this feature.

Remote GUI allows you to access your router's online settings, also known as the graphical user interface (GUI), through a WAN connection. To access your modem remotely, you will enter https:// followed by the modem IP in the URL field of a browser.

Select Remote GUI in the left sidebar under Remote Management.

Follow the steps to edit the Remote GUI settings.
 

  • Step 1:  Enable the GUI state.

  • Step 2:  Enter the administrator username and password for your modem.

  • Step 3:  Enter the remote GUI port.

  • Step 4:  Click "Apply" to save your changes.

Remote Telnet enables "Secure Shell" (SSH) access to your router over a WAN connection using the modem's IP address.

Select Remote Telnet in the left sidebar, under Remote Management.

Follow the steps to edit the settings:

  • Step 1: Enable the remote telnet state.
  • Step 2: Enter the telnet username and password.
  • Step 3: Set the idle disconnect time.
  • Step 4: Select "Apply" to save your changes.
