CEMR Online Help
You can use the Service Address Validation option to obtain the Numbering Plan Area (NPA) and Local Serving Office (LSO) for a valid address. This option allows you to perform a:
Street Address Inquiry
Descriptive Address Inquiry
The system will return an NPA (also known as area code) and LSO if an exact match is found.
If an exact match is not found, CEMR attempts to find possible matches using the first four or more characters of the street name.
If only one address is found, an NPA and LSO are returned for that possible match.
If multiple possible matches exist, CEMR returns a list of possible addresses.
For scenarios where a particular address is better known by a Description than by a Street Address, CEMR allows you to send an inquiry using a descriptive address. Street address and descriptive inquiries are mutually exclusive.

If you enter a value in the Description field and also one or more of the Number, Street Name or Street Type fields, and click Submit, CEMR will return an error message stating "The Description field cannot be used with a Street Address search" as shown here. To continue, you must click "OK" on the error message pop-up and "Delete" the Description entry or the Street Address information.
