When a service provider plans to provide service for all assigned telephone numbers in a particular NPA/NXX, the new service provider will request reassignment of that NPA/NXX in the Local Exchange Routing Guide (LERG) in lieu of porting.

NPA/NXX migration, as opposed to porting, supports network efficiency and is the preferred method of moving all assigned numbers in an NPA/NXX.
