Speed Calling - V8.0

History Log

Product Description

Speed Calling allows an end-user to dial frequently called telephone numbers by dialing a 1 or 2-digit code in place of the entire telephone number.

End-users can program both local and long distance telephone numbers to their Speed Calling lists.

Depending on the product they work with, Speed Calling lists may be available in a 6, 8 number or 30 telephone number capacity. Each capacity can be added to the other, making a 36 or 38 telephone number memory. The lists are established and changed by the end-user.

With Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS)or Private Branch Exchange (PBX ) service, the end-user may have either an 8 or 30 telephone number list. Centrex 21, Centrex Plus, Centrex Prime®, Centron®, Customized Call Management Services (CCMS) and Centron 1™ provide Speed Calling lists in a 6 or 30 telephone number capacity. Centraflex provides a 30 telephone number capacity list only.

Centrex 21, Centrex Plus, Centrex Prime, Centron, CCMS, and except in a DMS™-10, Centron 1 may have the following types of Speed Calling:

  • 1-Digit List - Individual: Telephone numbers on the Speed Calling list are assigned a 1-digit code. The telephone number that the list is programmed on is the only one that can use and maintain the Speed Calling list.
  • 1-Digit List - Shared: Telephone numbers on the Speed Calling list are assigned a 1-digit code. Multiple users share the Speed Calling list. One telephone number is assigned as the controller to maintain and change the Speed Calling list and all users of the list dial a code to access the list.
  • 2-Digit List - Individual: Telephone numbers on the Speed Calling list are assigned a 2-digit code. The telephone number that the list is programmed on is the only one that can use and maintain the Speed Calling list.
  • 2-Digit List - Shared: Telephone numbers on the Speed Calling list are assigned a 2-digit code. Multiple users share the Speed Calling list. One telephone number is assigned as the controller to maintain and change the Speed Calling list and users of the list dial a code to access the list.

Feature Activation Codes; e.g., *82 or 1182 cannot be part of a Speed Call code.

There is not a minimum number of digits required in the telephone number; e.g., 911 can be programmed.

Only numbers can be programmed into a Speed Calling code. Symbols such as * or # cannot be part of a Speed Calling code.

Speed Calling numbers cannot be strung together; e.g., an end-user cannot use code 2 to dial a carrier access code and then press code 3 to dial a relative's telephone number.

Speed Calling codes must meet central office switch type telephone number programming limitations:

Switch Type Telephone Number Limitation
5ESS®, 5RSM (remote of 5ESS switch) Up to 32 digits.
DMS-10 Up to 18 digits.
DMS-100 Up to 24 digits.
Ericsson Up to 28 digits.

The following activation and deactivation code information is applicable for POTS and Centrex 21 products. Centrex Plus, Centrex Prime, Centron, Centron 1, CCMS, and Centraflex products code information can be obtained from your CenturyLink Sales Executive for a new account or CenturyLink Service Manager for existing accounts. For Centrex 21 follow the instructions below using # instead of * with the access code on a touchtone telephone.

To establish a Speed Calling list:

  1. End-user determines telephone numbers that they would like to associate with a Speed Calling code.
  2. End-user assigns a Speed Calling Code to each number they want on the Speed Calling list:
    • Speed Calling 6 Codes: 2 through 7 (CCMS, Centrex 21, Centrex Plus, Centrex Prime, Centron, and Centron 1)
    • Speed Calling 8 Codes: 2 through 9
    • Speed Calling 30 Codes: 20 through 49
  3. End-user dials one of the following access codes:
    • Speed Calling 6 Code: dial #74 from a touchtone or 74 from a rotary phone.
    • Speed Calling 8 Code: dial *74 from a touchtone or 74 from a rotary phone.
    • Speed Calling 30 Code: dial *75 from a touchtone or 75 from a rotary phone.
  4. End-user dials the Speed Calling code, followed immediately by the full telephone number they want associated with that code. (A tone confirms that the code number and the associated telephone number are recorded.)
  5. End-user will repeat above steps for each number they want to add or change/overlay on the Speed Calling list.
