Due to the high speed of fiber internet technology, many older modem/router models are incompatible. To use fiber service, you will need a fiber internet router. Some people ask whether they can do some research and purchase their own fiber-ready router from a third-party supplier, but CenturyLink strongly recommends against this, for a few reasons:
- We cannot guarantee that third-party equipment will work with our network.
- If something goes wrong, you will not be covered by our equipment replacement plan and will receive very limited technical support.
- CenturyLink technicians are unable to install third-party equipment for you.
So, to take the guesswork out of installation, and to make sure you get the support you need, we suggest buying or leasing a CenturyLink fiber-ready modem. The best model will be selected automatically when you order, or you can check out our modem FAQs for an updated list of the best routers to use with CenturyLink Fiber service.
