Email address change FAQs

The transition occurred on October 21, 2025. You now need to use your new myctl.net email address.

Your email address changed from username@q.com to username@myctl.net.

No. Your emails and messages moved from Q.com to MyCtl.net.

You need to update your username in your email platform settings.

If you did not do so previously, you also need to update your server settings. See the video below for step-by-step instructions on different devices/operating systems.

You can continue to use the email client you are using today. If you prefer to use webmail, you can sign in at www.CenturyLink.net using your new myctl.net address and your current password.

No, your password remained the same unless you were otherwise notified.

Now that your email address has been switched to myctl.net, your q.com address will no longer send or receive messages. Your q.com address forwarded any messages to your new myctl.net address until Dec 31, 2025.

How to update other accounts with your new email address

Learn how to update your accounts with your new email address.

Before you start updating anything, secure your new email address. If you haven’t already, set up two-factor authentication (2FA) or multi-factor authentication (MFA) on your email account. This makes it harder for your email account to get hacked.

This is the most time-consuming but crucial step. You need a list of every online account and subscription you have. Using a password manager can make this job easier. To build this list:

  • Audit your inbox: Search your email for key phrases like "welcome," "subscription confirmation," "order placed," "account created" etc.

  • Check your phone and computer: Look through the apps on your phone and the saved sign-ins in your browser's password manager (if you use one).

  • Review credit card statements: Check your bank and credit card statements for monthly subscriptions or recurring payments to identify accounts you might have forgotten.

  • Bonus tip: While you’re reviewing all these accounts and subscriptions, this might be a good time to cancel any you’re no longer using.

Organize your list in a spreadsheet or other document, noting the account name and website.

To ensure you don't lose access to anything vital, start with the most important accounts. Update these first and confirm the change is successful before moving on.

  • Financial institutions: Banks, credit cards, investment firms, and payment services (PayPal, Venmo, etc.).

  • Government and health: Tax accounts, social security, medical and health insurance portals.

  • Essential services: Utilities (power, water, internet), phone providers, and insurance.

  • Primary Device Accounts: Your Apple ID, Google Account, or Microsoft Account.

Look through your list and update the email address for each account. The process is usually similar for most services:

  1. Sign in to the account with your current credentials.

  2. Navigate to the Settings, Profile, or Account Information section.

  3. Find the field for your email address and follow the steps to enter your new one.

  4. Save the changes.

After updating, it’s recommended that you check for a confirmation email or a verification link right away. Click the link to finalize the change. If you don't receive confirmation, check your spam or junk folder.

Don't forget about accounts that might be linked to your old email address.

  • Social media: Update the email address on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and X (formerly Twitter).

  • Online shopping: Update your email on shopping sites.

You may want to send an email to your personal contacts letting them know about your new address.

Clean up and unsubscribe

As you go through this process, use it as an opportunity to do some house cleaning and clean up your digital life. When you find an account you no longer use or a mailing list you don't want to receive email from, unsubscribe instead of just updating the address. This will help you start fresh with a cleaner inbox.
