Making a partial payment
If you'd like to pay your bill online using more than one payment source, you certainly can. You'll just need to make each payment individually. Simply enter the amount you want to pay with your first payment source and complete that transaction. Then repeat the process using the second payment source. You can make as many payments as needed.
There's really only one limitation. For security, we can't accept multiple payments of the same amount from the same payment source on the same day, online. You can make payments of:
- Different amounts with the same payment source on the same day
- Same amount using different payment sources on the same day
- Same amount from the same source but on different days
How partial payments are applied to your account
State Public Utility Commissions (PUC) have established very specific rules as to how a partial payment must be applied. Their intent is to protect regulated services, such as your dial tone. As a result, in most states, undesignated partial payments are applied to the phone portion of your charged until that portion is paid in full. Any remaining money is paid proportionately to all the other charges on the account. This is called a "pro-rata" allocation.
You have the right to override the state allocation rules and divide your payment however you wish. Contact the Customer Financial Services center for help. To contact the Customer Financial Services center, enter your zip code so that we can provide you with the information for your location.
