How to use parental controls with Secure WiFi

Secure WiFi can help you control the content your kids can access, and when they can get online. Customers with Secure WiFi can use the parental controls from My CenturyLink online or from the My CenturyLink app

Important Note: Secure WiFi is available on modem models C1100, C3000A, C3000Z and C4000 leased from CenturyLink.

To access the Secure WiFi tools, sign in to your account on My CenturyLink or in the app and then select the "Internet" service option from the My Products screen (in the app) or menu (on My CenturyLink).


Create groups for the kids' devices

The first thing to do is identify and group the kids' devices. You can do this for all of your kids as one group, or create a separate group for each child. Note that each device can be placed in only one group at a time.

To create a new group:

  1. Go to Manage Groups

  2. Select "Create Group"

  3. Enter a name for the group, such as "Junior's Devices" or "All Kids' Devices"

  4. Click the "Save Changes" button

  5. Now select the group from the Manage Groups screen

  6. Click on "Manage Devices" to bring up your list of all devices

  7. Click on the devices you want to add to the group

How to control content

This feature allows you to block websites by content category for a group of devices connected to your network.  Tap on the group name from the Manage Groups screen and tap on "Block Web Content" to get started.
 

  1. Select the content categories you want to block for the group. Tap the category again to unselect it.

  2. Tap on the "Save Changes" button
     

The same web content will be blocked on all devices in the group.

How to control internet access time

Select the group name from the Manage Groups screen and tap on "Schedule Access Time" to get started.
 

Add a new schedule:

  1. Tap on the "New Schedule" button
  2. Tap on the days of the week you want to allow internet access for this group 
  3. Select the start and end time
  4. Tap on the "Save" button


Edit 
a schedule:

  1. Tap the pencil icon next to the schedule you want to change
  2. Tap on the days of the week you want to allow internet access for this group 
  3. Select the start and end time
  4. Tap on the "Save" button


Remove 
a schedule:

  1. Tap the trash can icon next to the schedule you want to remove
  2. Tap OK when prompted to remove the schedule
  3. The schedule will be removed
