Turning User Intercept on and off

Sometimes you need to keep a phone number working for a transition period when user is no longer assigned to it. As an administrator, you can add a default or custom greeting to let callers know the number is not in service and direct them to another phone number.

Note: This feature is turned on by default; you only need to turn it on if you have turned it off. 

Turn User Intercept on

To inform callers the number is no longer in service, you need to turn the User Intercept feature on. 
To turn User Intercept on:
  1. Click the Users tab.
  1. For the user you want to edit information for, click Actions.
  1. Select Edit
  1. Click the User Intercept tab.
  1. Change the User Intercept toggle to on.
  1. From the Incoming Calls list, select Intercept incoming calls.
  1. Select the type of announcement you want to use by doing one of the following:

    • To play a system-generated message that says the number is not in service, select the Default Announcement radio button.

    • To play a custom announcement you create, select the Custom Announcement radio button, and then click on the upload icon to add a WAV file.
  1. User Intercept for Outgoing Calls is currently not supported. 
  1. Click Save.

Turn User Intercept off

To remove a message saying the line is out of service, you need to turn the User Intercept feature off.

To turn User Intercept off: 

  1. Click the Users tab.
  1. For the user you want to edit information for, click Actions.
  1. Select Edit
  1. Change the User Intercept toggle to off.
  1. Click Save.
