Turning Dial by Extension on and off

As an administrator, you can give users the ability to direct dial colleagues using the dialpad on their phone to type the extension of the person they want to reach. You can allow dialing by extension during business hours, after hours, or both.

Turn Dial by Extension on

To allow users to dial by extension to call other users within your organization, you need to turn the feature on.
To turn Dial by Extension on:
  1. Click the Advanced Services tab. 
  1. Click Auto Attendants
  1. From the Actions list, select Edit Service

The Incoming Call tab opens.

  1. Click the Menu tab.   
  1. To turn Dial by Extension on during business hours, select the Business Hours checkbox.
  1. From the Not Used list, select Dial by extension
Note: The number you select for dial by extension must coincide with the first digit of your extensions. For example, if your extensions begin with a two (2345), you would program 2 as the press off for dialing by extension. 
  1. To turn Dial by Extension on after hours, select the After Hours checkbox, then click the After Hours tab.
  1. From the Not Used list, select Dial by extension
  1. Click Save

Turn Dial by Extension off

When you no longer wish to allow users to call their colleagues by typing a person's extension using the dialpad on their phone, you can turn Dial by Extension off. Turn the feature off during business hours, after hours, or both.
To turn Dial by Extension off:
  1. Click the Advanced Services tab. 
  1. Click Auto Attendants
  1. From the Actions list, select Edit Service

The Incoming Call tab opens.

  1. Click the Menu tab.   
  1. Click the After Hours tab. 
  1. To turn Dial by Extension off after hours, deselect the After Hours checkbox.
  1. From the Dial by extension list, select Not Used
  1. Click the Business Hours tab. 
  1. Deselect the Business Hours checkbox.
  1. From the Dial by extension list, select Not Used
  1. Click Save
