Locate the best Wi-Fi channel on your modem

Your modem's wireless status includes a huge range of information, from the number of connected devices to channel utilization and more advanced features. For the purposes of this article, we'll just be focusing on how to find the best Wi-Fi channel on your modem. 
NOTE:  This article applies to newer CenturyLink modems. Other modems may have different features, lights, and behaviors.
Modem Status Step 1-3

1.  Connect a device, such as a computer or tablet, directly to your modem using the Ethernet cable (usually yellow).

2.  Open a web browser and type http://192.168.0.1 into the web address field.

3.  Log in to your modem's settings (GUI) using the Administrator Username and Password, then select "Apply." Unless you have changed the default settings, you can find the login information on the modem's sticker.

4.  Select "Modem Status."

5.  Select "Wireless Status."

6.  On this screen you can find the "Best Available Channel." Proceed to the next step to compare channels.

The best available Wi-Fi channel can change frequently based on factors in your environment. The modem looks for the best available channel when you plug in the power cord. To refresh the best available channel power cycle your modem.

7.  Compare the Channel (current) to the Best Available Channel. If you are not on the best channel, you can change the Wi-Fi channel here.
