Additional payment questions

If your payment is declined, please submit another payment right away.

Whether we contacted you about a declined payment or you learn about it first, you'll also want to chat with us to tell us you're submitting another payment.

What to expect next

We charge a re-processing fee when a payment is declined. The fee varies from $10 to $25 per incident, depending on your location.

When a payment is declined, there's also a good chance that it will be late. In that case, you will also be charged a late fee, ranging from $5 to a percentage of the amount due.

If your bill gets too far past due, your service could get disconnected. To avoid any interruptions, contact us so we can help you get your account straightened out and make any necessary payment arrangements.

Reasons your payment may have been declined

The top three reasons payments don't go through:

  1. Insufficient funds in the account
  2. Closed, canceled, or expired accounts
  3. Invalid account numbers

There are thtree ways for someone other than the account holder to pay a CenturyLink bill:

  1. Automated phone system
  2. In-person payments
  3. Mailed payment

Payments through our automated phone system do not require a sign-in. That makes them the ideal choice if someone else needs to pay your bill.

What information will they need?

No matter which payment is chosen, the person paying your account will need this information:

  1. Your account number, which you can find in the upper-right-hand corner of your bill or by signing in to My CenturyLink.

  2. The amount to be paid.

It's important to give the payer all the information they will need to complete the payment on your behalf. CenturyLink will not be able to provide information such as your account number and the amount due, unless we are communicating with an authorized person on your account.

Add an authorized person to your account

If you want someone to make payments for you or access your account information on an ongoing basis, you can designate them as an authorized person on your account. You can revoke the designation at any time.

You can pay up to $200 over the amount you owe when you pay online. To prepay more than $200, you will need to mail us a check or money order.

When you pay online, in person or by phone, your payment is considered "accepted pending settlement", and your account is in good standing on that same day.

There is one exception to this rule: if you pay in person or on the phone with the assistance of a CenturyLink agent on a weekend or federal holiday, it will be considered accepted the next business day.

If you pay by mail, your payment should be accepted pending settlement within 10 days of the mailing date.

It usually takes 3-5 days for the payment to be fully settled with the financial institution from which you made your payment. But don't worry; as long as the payment got to CenturyLink by your due date, you'll be in good standing while the payment settles.
