Modem troubleshooting tips

  • Did you know?  If your internet connection is spotty or slow, the best place to start is rebooting your modem.
  • As a last resort:  You can reset your modem to its out-of-the-box settings. 

Modem setup

To configure your modem settings, first access the user interface by opening a web browser and going to http://192.168.1.254. Enter your administrator username and password. If you need help locating the username and password, contact tech support.

After accessing the settings interface as described under modem setup, above, continue with the steps below:

1. Select Home Network, then WAN Setup.

2. Select Edit at the top of the list.

3. On the WAN Setup screen, make sure the settings are as follows:

  • Broadband Type: DSL
  • DSL mode: ATM
  • Broadband Connect Type: PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE)
  • Encapsulation Mode: LLC/SNAP-BRIDGING
  • VLAN Mux - Enable Multiple Protocols Over a Single PVC: Unchecked
  • VPI 8 VCI 35 | Madison River: VPI 0 VCI 35
  • Service Category: UBR Without PCR
  • Enable Quality of Service: Unchecked
  • Type the username in the PPP Username field.
  • Type the password in the PPP Password field.
  • PPPoE Service Name: (Leave blank)
  • Dial on demand (with idle timeout timer): Unchecked
  • PPP IP extension: Unchecked
  • Use Static IP Address: Unchecked
  • Retry PPP password on authentication error: Unchecked
  • Enable PPP Debug Mode: Unchecked
  • Bridge PPPoE Frames Between WAN and Local Ports: Unchecked
  • Enable IGMP Multicast: Checked
  • Enable WAN Service: Checked
     

4. Select Save

After accessing the settings interface as described under modem setup, above, continue with the steps below:

1. Select Home Network, then WAN Setup.

2. Select the Edit button at the top of the list.

3. Make sure the settings are as follows:

  • Broadband Type: DSL
  • DSL mode: ATM
  • Broadband Connect Type: MAC Encapsulation Routing (MER)
  • Encapsulation Mode: LLC/SNAP-BRIDGING
  • VLAN Mux - Enable Multiple Protocols Over a Single PVC: Unchecked
  • VPI 8 VCI 35 | Madison River: VPI 0 VCI 35
  • Service Category: UBR Without PCR
  • Enable Quality of Service: Unchecked
  • Obtain IP address automatically: Selected
  • Obtain default gateway automatically: Selected
  • Obtain DNS server addresses automatically: Selected
  • Enable NAT: Checked
  • Enable Fullcone NAT: Unchecked
  • Enable IGMP Multicast: Checked
  • Enable WAN Service: Checked
     

4. Select Save.

After accessing the settings interface as described under modem setup, above, continue with the steps below:

1. Select Home Network, then WAN Setup.

2. Select the Edit button at the top of the list.

3. Make sure the settings are as follows:

  • Broadband Type: DSL
  • DSL mode: ATM
  • Broadband Connect Type: MAC Encapsulated Routing
  • Encapsulation Mode: LLC/SNAP-BRIDGING
  • VPI 8 VCI 35 | Madison River: VPI 0 VCI 35
  • Service Category: UBR Without PCR
  • Use The Following IP Address: Selected
  • WAN IP Address: Assigned Static IP
  • WAN Subnet Mask : Assigned Subnet Mask
  • Use The Following Default Gateway: Selected
  • Use IP Address: Assigned Default Gateway
  • Use The Following DNS Server Addresses: Selected
  • Primary DNS Server: Regional Primary DNS
  • Secondary DNS Server: Regional Secondary DNS
     

4. Select Save.

To connect to the WiFi on the Cisco DDR2200, you will need a security key. The default key is the serial number with a 0 added to the beginning.

EXAMPLE

Serial number: 150068926
Key: 0150068926

After accessing the settings interface as described under modem setup, above, continue with the steps below:

1. Select Home Network, then Wireless, then Basic.

2. Check the Enable Wireless box. Make the desired changes:

  • SSID: DDR2200 (Default)
  • Channel:
  • BSSID:
  • Wireless Mode:
  • 54G Protection: Auto
  • Enable WMM: Checked (Default)
     

3. Select Apply/Save

4. Select Home Network, then Wireless, then Security.

5. Select the following:

  • SSID as specified above
  • Network Authentication:
  • Serial Number Encryption: (Default)
  • Key as specified above
     

6. Select Apply/Save.
